WORK EXPERIENCE
2022 - Present
Student Researcher
IVAC, JOHN HOPKINS UNIVERSITY
Beginning in December I joined the International Vaccine Access Centre as a part-time student researcher. I review pre-print and published studies assessing the impact of SARS-CoV-2 on neutralisation capacity of COVID-19 vaccines, abstracting and curating data, and interpreting findings.
Additional activities include assisting in the preparation of scientific publications, weekly meetings with the IVAC team and regular meetings with WHO.
2023
Antibody Researcher
BIOMÉRIEUX
I have recently finished 6 month paid internship at the company HQ in Lyon, France.
Thesis project entitled "From Single B-Cell Sorting to Recombinant Antibody Production: Design and Optimisation of an Innovative Workflow".
Developed and optimised a single-cell workflow for the discovery and production of recombinant monoclonal antibodies
2022
Genomics Intern
ELDA BIOTECH
Worked as a summer genomics intern on a project developing sequencing-based tools for pathogenic microorganism detection and identification.
The position was in-silico based, I learned to use tools like QIIME, MEGA, BLAST, R studio and other specific command-line-based ones. This project allowed me to build knowledge in many different areas of bioinformatics, as well as develop my coding experience.
2020
Erasmus Placemant
IBV VALENCIA
Lab Internship at the Institution of Biomedicine, Valencia. Where I worked on the genetic editing of yeast strains to analyse the specific promoters expressed during their cell cycle. I worked 1 on 1 with my supervisor and learned many techniques including PCR, gel analysis, data analysis and other general good lab practices.
2020-2021
English Teacher
BABYLANGUES
While studying in Tours, I taught a young french boy a new language. It involved the creation, implementation and organisation of English lessons in the written, oral and aural areas. As part of my duties, I facilitated collection, security and caring for vulnerable individuals in both outdoor and indoor settings
2018-2021
Student Ambassador
NUI GALWAY
Successfully reached the criteria as an involved and knowledgable student. Conveying to prospective students and alumni how great NUIG is and all the facilities and opportunities it can offer. Representing the university at events such as Open Days and Conferring’s, packing bags, giving directions, aiding in the setup and takedown of exhibitions.
EDUCATION
2021-2023
Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Degree
INFECTIOUS DISEASE AND ONE HEALTH
I am in the final stages of this MSc programme in September, where I spent a semester in Tours, France, Barcelona Spain, and Hannover, Germany and I have just finished a 6-month international placement. I will graduates in Sep 2023 and hopefully have learned how to aid in the prevention of the next pandemic.
2017-2021
Bachelor's Degree
BIOTECHNOLOGY
I graduated with a first-class honours degree from UG. This course blends together science, business and language to create a varied and competitive degree. I recently spent my placement in a Spanish lab as part of Erasmus.
2011-2017
Leaving Certificate
ST. PAUL'S SECONDARY SCHOOL
I studied Higher Level Maths, English, French, Biology Chemistry and Agricultural Science resulting in 532 points, the highest in my entire year.

MSc in IDOH
MY UNDERGRADUATE WORK
Universite De Tours
I received a scholarship from both the Region Centre-Val de Loire and the Ailesbury Humanitarian Foundation to support my semester in France. Here, the focus was on Immunology, Host-Pathogen Interactions, Virulence, Resistance, Public Health and Animal Welfare. I also took classes to improve upon my French. More than ten group projects and presentations were undertaken to improve our communication and teamwork skills.

Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona
I spent my second semester in Catalonia at the Veterinary Faculty. Here, modules consisted of emerging/re-emerging zoonoses, Disaster Response, Food Safety, One Health and BioSecurity. At the end of the semester, there was a summer school where we worked on soft skills such as collaboration, communication and teamwork. Here, I took online classes to work on my basic level of Spanish.
During this semester I amstudying at Hannover Medical School. The modules here include: Tranlational Medicine, Infectious Disease Diagnostics, Genome Editing, Emerging Viral Infections and Biorisk Management. I hope to procure some scholarships to help with the cost of living in Germany. I will also learn some basic German while studying there also.

Biomérieux, Lyon MSc Internship
Recently completed my internship where I leveraged advanced single cell sequencing techniques to produce novel antibodies with potential diagnostic applications, showcasing an in-depth understanding of immunology and a passion for applying cutting-edge scientific techniques to generate innovative results.

BSc in Biotechnology
STUDIES ABROAD
John Carroll University
I received a scholarship from the "Irish society of Greater Cleveland" via NUIG allowing me to study at JCU Ohio for a semester. I furthered my knowledge of science with their more lab focused and smaller classes. It was a great opportunity to experience a different culture and learning style. I was also able to volunteer with the Events Board and homelessness charity LABRE.

IBV Valencia
I spent my second semester on Erasmus placement in the Instituto de Biomecánica de Valencia. I worked on the genetic editing of yeast strains to analyze the specific promoters expressed during their cell cycle. It was a fantastic opportunity to work in a lab and experience the R&D environment. I was unfortunately recently sent home due to the developing pandemic.
ASSIGNMENTS
STAY-AT-HOME SUMMER
With my summer working in Vancouver cancelled and the prospect of a summer job in the drain, I was left wondering what to do with myself.
I wanted to take advantage of this extra time and use it to expand my knowledge as well as upskill. Thanks to Google Digital Garage and Coursera, I was able to participate and complete over 15 accredited courses from several third-level institutes.
These included a 150 hour TEFL Master course, a specialisation in Immunology and a B2 in French to name a few.
Since then, I have gone on to do more certified courses in topics like clinical trials and biocotainment.
MY FIRST PUBLICATION
In March of 2022, a modified version of my thesis was published in a peer-reviewed journal for young scientists. I worked alongside the editors and reviewers of "Youth Stem Matters" for several months to get my piece ready for their journal. It was a great experience turning a project into a piece fit for publication. I learnt just how much effort and time must be put into a manuscript to have it up-to-scratch for publication.
